David Kendall

Over 30 years formal training and professional experience in biological research.

Career

  • Graduate of Bristol University - BSc (Hons) in Zoology and Botany (1966), PhD in Entomology (1969).

  • Employed as a Government Research Scientist (1969-95) by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) at the Institute of Arable Crops Research (IACR - Long Ashton Research Station, Crop and Environmental Sciences Department - Crop Ecology and Management, Department of Agricultural Sciences, University of Bristol, Long Ashton, Bristol, UK).

  • Took early retirement from BBSRC in 1995 to work as an Independent Research Consultant in Entomology and Agroecology, trading as Kendall Bioresearch Services (KBS). Examiner for the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES).

  • Semi-retired since January 2009; part-time Consulting Entomologist, Kendall Bioresearch Services (KBS).

Expertise and Research Experience

  • All aspects of pure and applied entomology - insect taxonomy, morphology, behaviour and ecology.

  • Crop protection, pest control and the control of insect-transmitted plant viruses in cereals, other arable crops, fruit, vegetables and agroforestry.

  • The role of insects in the pollination of flowering plants and the pollination requirements of fruit and vegetable crops.

  • Habitat management for the conservation of beneficial insects.

  • Experimental design, field sampling and statistical analysis of biological data.

Publications

  • Over 200 publications in scientific journals, books, conference proceedings and agricultural magazines.

  • Numerous technical reports commissioned by UK Government Departments, the European Commission, Agrochemical Companies and the Legal Profession.

  • Contributor to the CAB International Crop Protection Compendium (2001 Edition).
